The Laugavegur Ultra Marathon will be hosted for the 16th time on the 14th of July 2012. This 55 kilometer long Ultra marathon begins in Landmannalaugar and ends at the Volcano Huts in Thorsmork. How to get here
A mountain bus goes to and from Thorsmork from Reykjavik twice a day from June 5th to August 31st. From September 1st to September 16th the bus goes once daily. For a detailed info on the bus schedule and booking click the following button.
The Volcano Huts Thorsmork are situated about 150 km south-east of Reykjavík. Highway 1 takes you along the south coast, through little villages and farmlands until you come to the Seljalandsfoss waterfall where you turn off the highway on to road F249 to Þórsmörk/Thorsmork. From there we strongly advise that you leave your car and take the mountain bus the rest of the way to the Volcano Huts Thorsmork.
Some glacial rivers are dangerous and should only be crossed by experienced drivers on powerful 4×4 trucks. Do not attempt to cross the river Krossá on your own! Please use the mountain busses if you have any doubt about the rivers. Contact our staff at the Volcano Huts for further information.
Two popular hiking trails lead you to Thorsmork, one being the trek from Skógar over the Fimmvörðuháls trail and the other being the Laugavegur hiking trail from the Landmannalaugar Nature Reserve.
