Bus to Þórsmörk
The Volcano Huts are only accessible by a mountain bus that goes to and from Thorsmork from Reykjavik from May 1st to September 30th. You can hop on or off the bus at various locations along the way.
Bus Time Tables
The Volcano Huts are located on an island between two big rivers in the Thorsmork Nature Reserve, about 150 kilometers south-east of Reykjavík.
The location is only accessible by a mountain bus or on foot.
Please be advised!
- Small cars: Park your car at the N1 gas station in Hvolsvöllur or by the Seljalandsfoss waterfall where you can take the bus the rest of the way. Here you can find the schedule for the bus.
- 4×4 cars: Drive your car approximately 25 km up road nr. F249 and park your car by the Volcano Huts sign by the side of the road. Take the bus from there at 11:35 in the morning, 15:35 or 19:30 in the evening. Note that the bus might be a few minutes late.
- Do not attempt to cross the Krossá River (400 meters on your left from the Volcano Huts sign)!
Two popular hiking trails lead you to Thorsmork, one being the trek from Skógar over the Fimmvörðuháls trail and the other being the Laugavegur hiking trail from the Landmannalaugar Nature Reserve.
