You can be sure to find plenty of activities in Thorsmork and many places to explore at the Volcano Huts in the Þórsmörk Nature Reserve. Most people come here for the endless hiking trails and stay for a few days, while others come for a short stop and a nice picnic. We are happy to assist you in finding suitable hiking trails or set up an activity program for your group.

Like to Hike!
We like to hike, but we also like a bit of comfort. We can send you off with a picnic lunch and we always have a hot meal or a cold drink ready for when you return from the trails. You can choose between shared or private accommodations and relax in the LavaSPA natural hot pool and sauna, between your hiking tours. Many of the most famous hiking trails in Iceland lead to and from our location in the Þórsmörk Nature Reserve and we are happy to assist you in finding the best hiking trails or some other activities in Thorsmork.
Easy to navigate
You can choose between short and easy or the longer and more demanding trails. The most popular trails in Þórsmörk are well marked and we will help you find the trails that are best suited for you. The Þórsmörk Park Administration has produced a map of the Þórsmörk Hiking Trails. The map is easy to understand and gives a good view of the trails in the area. The map has information in English about the trails and will give you a little insight into the volcanic landscapes of Þórsmörk and its history. The Þórsmörk Trail Map can be purchased at the Volcano Huts.
Shorter Hiking Trails
Our location offers a great variety of different hiking trails where every hiker should find a trail to his or hers abilities. Short and long trails lead to and from our location and we are happy to help you find the best trails. Trail maps can be bought at the Volcano Huts.
For the more experienced hikers
Experienced hikers and mountain runners have endless trails to explore as and the terrain offers a vide variety in distances and difficulty. The Volcano Huts are located in between the two most famous hiking trails in Iceland, the Laugavegur Hiking Trail from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk and the Fimmvörðuháls Hiking Trail from Skógar to Þórsmörk via the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano.
Fimmvörðuháls Hiking Trail
The Fimmvörðuháls hiking trail connects Skógar on the south coast of Iceland to the Þórsmork area. The 30 kilometers long trail leads you up the hills beneath the Eyjafjallajökull glacier and volcano, up and over the Fimmvörðuháls mountain ridge and past the new volcanic craters that were formed in the latest volcanic eruption in 2010. The trail is steep and can prove difficult for any man due to the unpredictable weather and difficult terrain. You can join a guided trek over the Fimmvörðuháls trail.
Laugavegur Hiking Trail
Most people cross the Laugavegur Hiking trail in 3 – 5 days, starting in Landmannalaugar and ending their trip in Þórsmörk. Shorter options of the trek are available.
Accommodation is offered in six mountain huts and on camping grounds along the trail and can be booked here on our website.
The Volcano Huts provide a perfect setting for a vide range of events, meetings and conferences. The remote location and natural surroundings set the stage for secluded gatherings such as product launching, incentive trips, team building, filming projects as well as for more personal events such as weddings, anniversaries, reunions and family gatherings.
The LavaGrill restaurant & bar offers catering services for groups of all sizes in and around the Volcano Huts in Þórsmörk. Our LavaGrill dining hall accommodates up to 120 dinner guests and can be decorated according to special requests or themes. We can also host outdoors barbecues, buffets and cocktail parties in beautiful natural surroundings.
Team building – The LavaGames
The LavaGames are perfect for groups that want to engage in a playful exercise of individual initiative and team spirit. The LavaGames are a team building exercise where the group is split into teams that have to compete and navigate through an obstacle corse to reach the finish line. The teams have to compete against each other and also work together to finish the corse. The team that finishes first is awarded with a prize that the whole group can enjoy.
